Coby Somsen, FNP
Family Medicine, Walk-In Clinic
Length of time at OMC:Prior to coming to OMC in 2018, I practiced in Cedar Rapids, IA and Rapid City, SD. I have been a nurse practitioner in urgent care since 2011. Before I became an NP, I practiced as a registered nurse for eight years in a variety of settings and locations.
Why do you like working at OMC?I am excited to work at OMC because the staff here truly care about our patients and each other.
What is your philosophy of care?Healthcare can be intimidating for lots of people. I try to meet my patients where they are, and take the time to break down a diagnosis or disease process so that they can make the best decisions for their health. I try to provide patient-centered care – empowering patients to take an active role in their health and treatment plans. I’m hopeful that patients find me friendly, relatable, and honest.
What do you like to do when you’re not at OMC?I enjoy lounging in the sun, spending time with my dog, sitting on a boat or reading a good book. I also like to bake and cook and find I'm pretty good at it.
Fun Fact about me:I spent 10 months volunteering on a hospital ship in West Africa; it was an interesting, rewarding experience, and I learned a lot.
