At Osceola Medical Center, our commitment to providing the highest quality care drives us to continually seek improvements in our healthcare services. This is why we are excited to announce our transition to Epic, a leading electronic health record (EHR) system, on November 10, 2024. This upgrade will bring significant enhancements to our internal processes and patient care, with Epic's MyChart being one of the standout features.
Why are we switching to Epic?
Epic is one of the most advanced and widely used EHR systems in the healthcare industry. Here’s why we’re making the switch:
1. Integrated System:
- Epic offers a comprehensive, integrated system that streamlines our internal workflows, ensuring that all patient information is easily accessible and up-to-date across all departments.
2. Improved Patient Safety and Quality of Care:
- With real-time access to patient records, our healthcare providers can make more informed decisions, reducing the risk of errors and enhancing the quality of care.
3. Advanced Data Analytics:
- Epic provides powerful data analytics tools that help us monitor and improve patient outcomes, identify trends, and implement evidence-based practices.
4. Enhanced Coordination of Care:
- Epic facilitates better coordination among our healthcare teams, ensuring that all providers have access to the same patient information, which is crucial for delivering cohesive care.
5. Patient-Centered Features:
- Epic MyChart, the patient portal component of Epic, empowers you with easy access to your health information, appointment scheduling, billing management, and secure communication with your healthcare providers. However, these features will be rolled out in phases over the coming months.
What This Means for You
While this transition brings many long-term benefits, we understand that it may also come with some short-term challenges.
Here’s what you can expect:
1. Short-Term Learning Curve:
As our staff adjusts to the new system, there may be some initial slowdowns. We appreciate your patience as we work through this transition period.
2. Past Medical Records Not Transferred:
If you need access to medical records from before November 10, 2024, please note that the old patient portal has been permanently shut down. To request records, you will need to submit a Medical Records Release Request Form. Please be aware that processing these requests may take 2-4 weeks. You can find the form and instructions on our Medical Records page here.
3. Portal Shutdown:
As we prepare to launch Epic MyChart on November 10, 2024, we want to remind all current patients to download any important medical records or lab results from the current portal before the switch. After November 10, the current patient portal will be permanently shut down, and you will no longer have access to your old records online. Downloading your records now will save you time and ensure you have everything you need. For step-by-step instructions on how to download your records, check out our detailed guide here. Previous health records will be retained in the Medical Records Department at OMC. Please contact them at 715-294-2111 for assistance.
4. Enhanced Long-Term Convenience:
Once fully implemented, Epic will significantly enhance your experience with OMC. You’ll benefit from:
- Improved Access to Health Information: MyChart allows you to view new lab results, medications, and health records.
- Efficient Appointment Management: Easily schedule and manage appointments (this feature will roll out after the initial launch).
- Streamlined Billing: View and pay your bills online with greater transparency.
- Better Communication: Securely message your healthcare providers and receive timely responses.
5. Comprehensive Support:
We are committed to providing you with the support you need during this transition. Our staff will be available to assist with MyChart sign-ups and any questions you may have. Look for team members wearing "Ask me about MyChart" shirts for help.
