Ear, Nose and Throat/ENT

ENT is the oldest medical specialty in the United States, focusing on the diagnosis and treatment of ear, nose, throat, and head and neck disorders. Our ENT specialists perform procedures such as tonsilectomies/adenoidectomies, ear tube insertions, sinus surgery and myringotomies. They are also trained in the diagnosis and treatment of voice disorders, sinus surgery, and head and neck cancer.

 Derek Schmidt, MD is a graduate of the University of Minnesota Medical School who specializes in otolaryngology, or ear, nose and throat diseases. He completed his internship in surgery at the Hennepin County Medical Center, and his residency at the University of Minnesota. He is also board certified in otolaryngology.

He said he found ENT as his calling in medical school, realizing that the scope of its practice fit his personality and interests. He particularly enjoys treating children. His other interests include salivary gland, thyroid, and parathyroid surgery.

Along with treating patients, Schmidt said he enjoys spending time with his wife and children, being out on the lake, and golfing.
